Yes. Water leaking from the toilet tank into the bowl continues into the septic system even when nobody flushes. The floor may stay dry, and the leak may be quiet. Continuous extra flow can overload the system, so a toilet that refills by itself or a water bill that rises unexpectedly deserves attention before septic symptoms appear.
If the plumbing is otherwise draining normally, place a few drops of food colouring in the toilet tank and leave it unflushed for ten minutes. Colour appearing in the bowl indicates a leak; flush after the check to help prevent staining. Arrange repair of the toilet rather than treating tank pumping as the fix for the ongoing water loss. If a septic warning is already active, follow our septic alarm guidance and report the suspected leak when requesting help.
